Assessment notices will look different

Assessment notices will be mailed to Canyon County property owners June 3, and the notices will look slightly different than they have in past years, according to Canyon County Assessor Gene Kuehn. In previous years, the bottom of the notice has included the previous year’s taxes, and the estimated taxes for the current year. Because of changes within taxing districts, the estimated taxes, previously shown as the amount each taxing district receives, will not be shown on the assessments this year.

According to Kuehn, the estimated tax is almost always incorrect, and this year would be even more erroneous than normal.  “The estimated tax will not be shown this year due to a couple of things.  First, North Nampa Urban Renewal will be going out of existence and second, the passage of a General Obligation Bond for the Kings Corner overpass,” Kuehn said.

The assessment notices, which will be received by property owners early next week, will include your property’s assessed value from last year and this year, names of the various taxing districts your taxes support, with their telephone numbers and date of their public budget hearing, and the amount of taxes you paid to each last year.
